This is a short ’sharing’ post for all the readers that have been coming to the site and checking out Educast Media. One of the gentlemen at a university that I have recently spoken to asked if I had any examples of media that have been used in other colleges and universities around the United States. With that in mind, I created this spreadsheet from my database that lists the titles of films used, as well as the classes that they we utilized with. These results did not come from any one school, but rather about 20-25. All of these results are from English classes, but other disciplines are available via email at kevin@educastmedia.com.

Classroom Extension

CMS –ECDS quickly and easily integrates with most major CMS and LMS platforms. Blackboard, WebCT, Sakai, Angel, and Moodle integrations have been made, and await install and any necessary customization at your institution.

Twitter –One of the problems with reserve media used outside of class is that immediate discussion points are lost, clarity of the overall experience degrades over time, and if students and faculty don’t view media together, it is tough to begin building on each other’s thoughts and produce a meaningful discussion. Twitter has allowed ECDS to extend the classroom and discussion in a linear, and at the same time, non-linear manner.

It works like this: Student A logs onto the CMS, reaches the media page for their course, starts their media in the ECDS student viewer, and is able to record immediate thought regarding specific media in an organized and automated way. Each tweet is hash (#) tagged with university/course ID and ‘media timestamp’, effectively capturing that student or faculty input for later review and discussion.

Accessibility

Subtitle Languages – Some University students speak English as a secondary language, ECDS allows you to automatically import your multimedia with English subtitles and translate them into over 80 languages, which are selectable on the fly by students and faculty as they view their assigned media.

On-Demand – Students don’t always have the time to check out reserve media during normal hours, and many students in this day and age are used to consuming media of their choosing at will.
